When we look around the world and see pain, brokenness, sickness, death, and injustice, it’s only natural to ask: Why does God allow suffering? Is He not loving? Is He not powerful enough to stop it? These questions are valid and deeply human. But to find an answer, we must go back to the very beginning—when God first created the world.
God’s Original Plan at Creation
In the beginning, God created a perfect world—a paradise full of beauty, order, peace, and harmony. Humanity, formed in His image, was placed in this world with the ability to love, create, and choose. God didn’t create robots or programmed beings; He created people with free will because genuine love can only exist in the presence of choice.
He desired a relationship with us—one built on love, trust, and a willing heart. God didn’t want forced worship; He wanted people to choose Him freely. That freedom, however, came with risk.
When the first humans, Adam and Eve, chose to disobey God, sin entered the world. That one decision had massive consequences. It brought spiritual separation from God, and with it came pain, suffering, death, and decay. This was not God’s design—it was the result of mankind stepping away from His light and truth.
The Fall: When Suffering Entered the World
God, in His love, allowed this freedom, knowing that some would reject Him. But He also knew the end from the beginning and already had a plan to restore humanity.
Why Then, Does He Still Allow It?
We often wonder why God didn’t just stop all the evil immediately. But doing so would also mean removing our freedom. The truth is, God is allowing time—time for every human being to see the real consequences of rejecting His ways, and the pain that results when we turn from His light.
All of human history is a living demonstration that life outside of God leads to destruction. This is the suffering we see around us – the cascading effect of sin that destroys humanity and all of nature. God is showing us that His way truly is best—not by force, but by contrast. He’s giving everyone the chance to choose for themselves whom they will serve.
Every generation has a chance to see the consequences of darkness and the beauty of walking with God. Our lifetime, and the lifetime of all humanity, is a gracious window of time to realize the truth: we were made for God, and real life only begins when we live in step with Him.
God’s Plan for the New Earth
God’s ultimate plan doesn’t end in suffering—it ends in redemption. He promises a new heaven and a new earth, where those who freely chose Him will live forever in peace, joy, and love. These people will receive upgraded, immortal bodies that are incapable of sin—not because God forced it on them, but because they longed for it. They proved through their lives that they wanted to walk in righteousness and truth.
In that new world, there will be no more pain, no more death, no more tears. Suffering will be a thing of the past, and only love, joy, and unity with God will remain.
The Final Word
So why does God allow suffering? Because He loves us enough to let us choose. He gives us the dignity of free will, the opportunity to understand the consequences of turning from Him, and the chance to choose Him willingly—not out of fear or force, but out of love and trust.
And for those who choose Him, the future is bright beyond imagination. A world with no sin, no sorrow, and no death—a world where suffering is forever silenced.
Now is our chance. Will we choose the Creator and walk in His light? Or will we reject His truth and bear the consequences? God has done everything to show us the way. The rest is up to us
