In this journey of life, there are certain things we know are within our control and within our capacity to handle. Even when we pray to God about such matters, we often already have an idea of how we intend to resolve them using our God-given strength. However, there are moments when life presents us with challenges that are beyond our understanding, situations we cannot fathom and for which we see no clear solution. It is in moments like these that God steps in as the King of kings, breaking through the natural to perform the supernatural, moving the pieces of life in our favour. Yet a key component in this process lies with us, and that is our faith.
To trust God for the impossible, our faith muscles must be built. This begins with a proper understanding of the sovereignty of God. We must recognise that He is greater than everything that exists, including the earth, the planets, and the entire universe. Just as a developer who creates a video game can program anything into existence within that virtual world, God can introduce the supernatural into our natural reality for our good and according to His will.
Once we grasp how great and powerful God is, we must then seek to understand His will, and this comes through diligent study of the Scriptures. We must search the Word to know God’s will concerning every area of our lives, including our identity, purpose, family, relationships, work, business, and much more. When we know God’s will, we can begin to declare it boldly in faith. Like our heavenly Father, we have been given the power of words to speak life or death, so we must choose to speak life. Prayer is not wishful thinking, nor is it a magic wand used to obtain whatever we desire. Rather, prayer must be aligned with God’s will; otherwise, we pray amiss.
Therefore, having armed ourselves with an understanding of God’s sovereignty and His will as revealed in Scripture, when difficult challenges arise and supernatural intervention is needed, we can stir up our faith, cut off fear, and resist the devil. We can then boldly and confidently declare that our God is more than capable of resolving all things according to His will.
Faith also requires total trust and dependence on God. At times, we pray for something we know is aligned with God’s will, yet we struggle to understand why it has not yet come to pass. In such moments, we must learn to wait for God’s perfect timing. He knows what we need, and He will fulfil it at the appointed time. Though waiting is not easy, we trust God’s Word, which assures us that all things work together for good for those who love Him, and that His thoughts toward us are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give us a future and a hope. As we hold firmly to His Word, we draw strength to endure the waiting season and receive divine joy, knowing that everything rests in our Father’s hands.
Finally, we must grow to spiritual maturity, like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who trusted God to deliver them from death yet declared that even if He chose not to, they would still serve Him and refuse to bow to any other god. They understood that no matter how long a human lifespan may be, it is insignificant compared to eternity. They trusted that their heavenly Father can raise the dead, whether in this life or at the resurrection, so that His children may live with Him forever.
So the next time the devil raises his head and attempts his familiar scheme to steal, kill, and destroy, we will not panic. Instead, we will cast our burdens upon the Lord, trusting that He will fight for us and orchestrate all things in our favour according to His will. Even when it does not make sense, even when it seems impossible, we will keep our focus on God in complete trust.
